My Helpful Tips When Dealing With Anxiety
I've dealt with a lot of anxiety since I was preteen. I don't really know if it has been passed down through genes, learned behavior, or if that's just how I'm wired, but believe me when I say I know how hard it can be to feel constantly tugged on and simple everyday life things become so hard to do.
One thing that I always remember when I'm feeling this way is that everything is temporary. The feeling you have now is temporary and will leave. The thing triggering you this morning is already over and there's nothing you can do now so focus on this exact moment and live.
I remember this one time about two years ago and I had woken up from having a panic attack. I had plans that afternoon that I couldn't really get out of and while I was sitting in the passenger seat looking out the window on the way there I was literally repeating that phrase in my mind. "Everything is temporary, everything is temporary, everything is temporary, everything is temporary." And I remember thinking that if my friend could have heard me sounding like a broken record they would've thought something was wrong with me but it truly helped. To step back and really think about how nothing lasts and that this panic you're feeling right now won't go on forever..that little mantra has changed my life.
I still do have panic attacks but whenever I feel myself getting uptight and like I can't breathe I think of those words and if I really try to focus on them I always calm down. I wrote this post because it was pressing on me, and I wanted to share it with you all. If this helps one person, I'd be elated. I'm not sure if someone taught me this little trick or if I came up with it on my own somehow, but I hope that if you're ever feeling overwhelmed and you remember that it is only temporary, you may not feel so overwhelmed.
