5 Songs I've Loving Right Now #3
Happy Thanksgiving! From the title I guess you can figure out that this is my third time writing this kind of post. I love sharing music with people and listening to tons of new artists and rediscovering old ones. It's one of the most therapeutic things to me to search through an artist's discography and albums to find my favorite songs of theirs. I hope you all enjoy these songs like I have been!
David Bazan- Kept Secrets
If you haven't heard of David Bazan (you're missing out), you might know him from Pedro the Lion, but I fell in love with his solo albums back in high school because of how real and genuine he seemed. Though his music style has changed a lot over the years, his signature voice is still there accompanied by dream-like keyboards and drum machines instead of acoustic guitars for this particular song and album as a whole. Lyrically wise, I think this is a kind of turning point from the crises and bittersweet yet heartbreaking moments he's sang about many times before to more of the normal, everyday burdens of being a husband, father, and songwriter. I still relate to him just as much as I did in high school to this day and I he'll always be one of my favorite voices and songwriters of all time.
I saw Temples perform a year or two ago when they were fairly new to the scene. With only one album out, they have totally drawn me in to their 60s/70s psychedelic/indie sound. When I saw that their new single, Certainty, was released I was so excited. Their sound has changed a bit since their first album but it's still equally as good. If you ever get a chance to see them live, DO IT. They might be the best band I've seen live ever.
Widowspeak- Gun Shy
Molly Hamilton, the lead singer, resembles Mazzy Star's husky, dreamy vocals like no other. With hollowed out sounds and moody melodies- this is right up my soft-90s-loving-heart's alley. Besides the fact that this song has been a go-to for me lately, I have nothing more to say about it except that if you're in need of a song that pulls at your romantic yet melancholic heartstrings, you need to hear this asap.
Sales- Seven's Day
I'm not sure if I've ever talked about this band before but I honestly think they're one of my greatest finds of this year. This song "Seven's Day" is one I've been drawn to a lot. Their sound is minimal with slightly off-kilter percussion rhythms that almost sound like they belong on an old school rap album from 20 years ago with air-y vocals that are sweet and ever, and simple guitar melodies. I seriously cannot get enough of them! There's something seriously "human" about this band that I'm completely down with.
Wussy- Teenage Wasteland
This indie-rock band has the same 90s nostalgic theme I've been loving so much lately. It's not exactly grungy, but it has the fuzzy sound that I've always felt connection with. It's ironic that this song's lyrics are just about that- finding a song or seeing a band live and their music just resonates with you so well- that feeling when someone feels the exact same way you do and I think ultimately that's why human love music. This song just gets me every. damn. time.
Hope you all are having an awesome holiday! What are some of your favorite songs/bands that I should check out?
