Favorite Albums of 2016
Radiohead | A Moon Shaped Pool
Favorite songs- Burn the Witch, Daydreaming, Present Tense, True Love Waits
This is the album I was most excited to hear this year since Radiohead has been one of my favorite bands for about 10 years. This album is more orchestral than the others and it flows so well with Thom Yorke's voice.
Mitski | Puberty 2
Favorite Songs- Happy, Your Best American Girl, I Bet on Losing Dogs
This is probably my favorite discovery of this year. I had never heard of Mitski until mid-summer this year and I fell in love the very moment I heard her. Her indie-rock/symphonic sound is so interesting and heartbreaking and hopeful all at the same time and her bursts of high energy always have me singing along.
Angel Olsen | My Woman
Favorite Songs- Intern, Never Be Mine, Shut Up Kiss Me, Not Gonna Kill You
This is an ultimate love album in the coolest way possible. Angel Olsen has such a nostalgic and self-reliant voice and her music has a bit of a 50's rock sound you'd play on a jukebox somewhere. My Woman is feminine and badass, sad but not in the hopeless kind of way, and overall beautiful and I wish I wrote this album myself.
Sales | Sales LP
Favorite Songs- Over, Big Sis, Jamz, Seven's Day
The first song I ever heard was "Jamz" and I knew I'd love this band just from hearing the first 30 seconds. The bright indie-rock guitars, skittish electronic percussion and enchanting vocals are all I'll ever need for my go-to chill album. I've heard these songs over and over again and I'm still not tired of this duo. It inspires me to be more playful with my own creative processes.
Frankie Cosmos | Next Thing
Devendra Banhart | Ape in Pink Marble
David Bowie | Blackstar
Porches | Pool
